The Palestinian Authority, responding to increasingly severe Israeli attacks on Palestinian territory, have tried to crack down on Palestinian attacks on Israelis. The Fatah Organization, which takes responsibility for the mortar attacks, was dissolved. Security patrols on the borders of Palestinian territory will be increased to stop attacks into Israeli areas. The Palestinian Authority has also arrested a Hamas leader for publicly criticizing the Palestinian Authority. These actions demonstrate how difficult it will be for the Palestinian Authority to stop the violence on their end. It will take something of a civil war to do it.
